    A perfect class for the beginner as well as the more advanced stained glass crafter who who may have already taken our Intro. To Stained Glass class but would like to develop better glass cutting skills.

     The instructor will introduce the student to the concepts that make the glass cutter work in combination with a over view of all the different tools on the market with a explanation of how they work or do not work. Each student will work with the Morton System to cut perfect repeatable strips, squares, rectangles and diamonds. The student will learn how to cut a perfect circle out of a sheet of art glass at the end of the class.

The student will need to provide a glass cutter, running pliers and breaking pliers.

One session per class - three and a half hours long 

Students must bring their own cutting tools.

This class will teach you the basics of glass mosaic construction.  You begin by learning how to cut glass strips of colored glass.  These strips are then shaped into smaller pieces using a mosaic tile disc cutter.
The instructor will help you design a pattern for your mosaic application.  If you choose to do so you can incorporate beads and other decorative objects into your design.  You will glue each piece onto the surface of the vase, and complete its construction by applying grout over the mosaic surface.

Two Sessions --Two Hours Each Session

You must purchase tools and materials in addition to the tuition.

    This one weekend three-day class will introduce the student to the use of commercially available molds for bending and slumping.The two fused plates that the student will make in the class will give him or her a greater understanding of the concepts of full fuse, tack fuse and bending temperatures. The instructor will cover the four main issues and concepts needed for successful glass fusing: compatibility, devitrification, annealing and volume control. There will also be a short lecture period dealing with firing schedules, trouble shooting the most common problems like bubbles and setting up your kiln for in-home studio operation.
    No previous glass work experience is needed for this class, but the student will need to provide a glass cutter, running pliers and breaking pliers.
    J Ring Glass provides firing services for students who have completed this class.

One weekend class - Three class sessions.

    This class teaches you how to make a drawing that will become your pattern for a stained glass window.  Learn how to make a pattern a certain size with all the corners squared and measured correctly.
    Class topics include: a thorough discussion of the use of different metal types ( zinc, lead and copper foil) and bevels, and the methods for drawing details of these materials onto your pattern.  The instructor will demonstrate advanced leading techniques to provide the student with an understanding of the relationship between drawing and actual construction of your stained glass projects with proper visual and structural properties.

The student should have completed a beginning stained glass class before this class.

   This is a two-day class where the student will make two projects. One will be a large 14 inch diameter platter where special techniques are needed for bubble control with a project this size. The second piece will be a 7 inch by 15 inch in size but is 1/2 inch thick, which will require special layering to create visual depth. It will be constructed with edge dams for volume control. Both of these projects will require special complex firing schedules which are required for large or thick projects.   

The student will need to provide a glass cutter, running pliers and breaking pliers.

    In this copper foil class the instructor will introduce and demonstrate the techniques of foil selection, solder application and build up, structural reinforcement, neutralization of flux and the pit falls with using copper and black patina.
    The project for this class is our popular dragonfly design.  This is 18” wide and 12” high.  Each student should be prepared to perform some of the required tasks for this class at home.

    In this one session class the student will learn the basic techniques for fusing glass as you create state-of-the-art pendants using dichroic glass.
    Students will cut glass and assemble it into two projects. The first is a dichroic pin and the second is a dichroic pendant with a special hole to attach  different clasps or cords.
    No previous glass work experience is needed for this class, but the student will need to provide a glass cutter and breaking pliers.

    Create an exciting array of design elements using an oxygen bench torch and kiln. Build your own rods using the rod pod and bring these to the flame. Students will start the class with an introduction to the torch, working with rods, stringers and short glass. The kiln forming projects include a finished plate created with multiple firings, two projects experimenting with pattern and figurative designs and a series of sampler tiles covering various techniques. Throughout the class we will address many basic issues surrounding firing schedules and kiln forming.

    The student will construct two molds in the class. One will be a glass bending mold and the other will be a casting mold using the Hi-temperature Castalot mold making material.
    The teacher will cover instructions on preparation of the molds for use and how to repair defects that may develop during casting.
